Fortum and Valkea received an Honorable Mention in the Most Startup Friendly Company 2020 Competition
December 10, 2020
During November more than 10 large companies with a turnover of at least EUR 10 million were competing for the title of the Most Startup Friendly Company in Finland in 2020. Fortum placed second in this tight race and received an Honorable Mention from the jury. Fortum was especially praised for its newly launched startup unit. "Founded this year, Valkea Growth Club has created a quick and concrete interface between Fortum and startups", described Tribe Tampere, the organizer of the event.
This year marked the third time for the annual competition to take place. The companies were evaluated for their operating models in both ecosystem and company-level startup cooperation as well as in promoting internal-startup culture.
In addition to the startup activities in Valkea, Fortum is continuously facilitating startup pilots, collaborating with relevant Venture Capital Funds, such as Palo Alto based Valo Ventures and Energy Impact Partners, and investing selectively in startups and growth companies supporting its path to a carbon neutral future. “As innovation and venturing operations are one of the cornerstones of Fortum’s brand new strategy, we are committed to expanding and strengthening our role in both the local and international startup ecosystems”, stated Tony-Frank Holmström, Manager, Investments & Partnerships, Valkea Growth Club.
